Night activity in cats

We know that cats sleep for long hours, but when they do not sleep, they can be very active. These activities often take place at night. If your cat is trying to wake you up after lying down, he could play, eat or just enjoy your business. Young cats under one year can especially make their owners crazy for sleep deprivation! Understand that the ancestors of the cat, the African wild cat, are mainly nocturnal. Domestic has changed the activity patterns of our pet to be more every day (awake during the day), but most cats still tend to wake up at least twice a night. The good news is that cats can learn to let the owners sleep in peace.
If your cat is resting near your home at night, painting or crying, he may be suffering from an underlying medical problem that causes pain or discomfort. If you think this might be the case, take your cat to the vet to eliminate the health problems, especially if you notice that he meets excessively during the day and night.

What if your cat stops you from sleeping at night?
To prevent your cat from disturbing you while you sleep, try the following suggestions:

  • Planifiez des sessions de jeu interactives avec votre chat le soir. Essayez d’utiliser des jouets pouvant imiter le mouvement des souris et des oiseaux, tels que des jouets qui pendent et se tordent. Les jeux avec des balles de ping-pong, des balles douces et des jouets en peluche sont parfaits pour les chats qui aiment ramasser. Jouer à votre chat semble fatigué.
  • Give the cat a main meal just before going to bed. Cats tend to sleep after a big meal. If your cat continues to wake up at night to eat, you can buy a scheduled food that you can fill and shake once or twice during the night. If your cat is hungry, he learns to wait for the manager instead of disturbing you while you sleep. Make sure to reduce the size of your meals so that your cat does not become heavier.
  • Include a variety of enrichment activities to keep the cat busy in broad daylight. The more active your cat is during the day, the more likely he will sleep at night. You must learn to enrich the life of the cat.
  • If your cat has social relationships with other cats, consider adding a second cat to your family. If both cats are compatible, they will probably play with each other and leave you alone at night. However, chain cats can do all the racket, which can hinder sleep as much as a cat trying to wake you up!
  • Cats sometimes hurt their sleeping owners. For example, your cat may notice that your eyes move while you sleep and swear on your face while playing. If the cat is trying to play with you or waking you while you are sleeping, you may need to get him out of the room at night. If he cries and scratches the door, you can counter it by placing an object in front of him that he will not want to walk on, such as a vinyl carpet.
  • If you need help, do not hesitate to call in experts.

especially do not do that?
Unless you suspect that your cat is waking you up because he is injured or sick, do not get out of bed and go see him. If you get up and feed your cat, play with him, or interact with him, you will inadvertently reward him for waking you up. As a result, he will do his best to wake you up every next night. Even getting out of bed to hide your cat will not work well, as negative attention from you may be better than no attention at all.
